Spearhead, 3rd Armoured Division, Paderborn, Germany, 1945

quick project for the month of August inspired by Adam Makos's WW2 novel Spearhead. The upper torso of the figure was taken from Verlinden Production's US Tank Crew WW2 set (134) and the legs were sculpted from epoxy putty. The head and hands are offerings from Hornet Models

The figure is test fitted on the base with one foot on top of a Tiger I gun barrel ;symbolising a bitter victory in the aftermath of the Battle of Paderborn when the 3rd Armoured Division suffered heavy casualties along with their commander General Maurice Rose.

1/35 scale M38 German Gas Mask Canister

A quick weekend project to convert Tamiya's 1/35 scale short model gas mask canister to the longer M38 model.  You can call it my David Parker moment. The canister body is lengthened by cannibalising the second half of another canister. The fastening clip and strap loops are made from stretched sprue and details refined with epoxy putty. The features on the lid and base plate are lathed from a hand held cordless drill.

A side by side comparison of Tamiya's pre-war short model on the left.

A size reference placed against my fingers.

Calvin

The Accordionist - Italy 1943

I have finally placed the crowning touches to this project ahead of the National Day holiday this weekend. Admittedly, this spur of the moment project turned out to be quite a fun experience - considering it is my first time painting pigeons. I also had the opportunity to indulge in some 1980's nostalgia - a time  when I was greatly inspired by Francois Verlinden's extensive use of this figure set in several dioramas featured in The Verlinden Way series of books.

As for the two remaining figures in the box, I might come around building them when the mood strikes.

Cheers,

Calvin

The Accordionist - Italy 1943

A small update from yesterday evening's painting session.

Weathered the floor using a concoction of gravel dust, texture paste and paint applied with an old stiff brush rush in a stippling motion.

Moving on to the pigeons now....

The Accordionist - Italy 1943

Stripped down and repainted the faux finish on the accordion casing.

I have also decided to change the setting to a more compact one to focus the viewer's attention onto the figure. Plus I have been wondering how to employ the box of pigeons from Miniart I recently acquired.

And for size reference.

Cheers,

Calvin
