Kua Si Mi????!!!!!!

_
I've finally made the delivery of the three 1/6 figure commissions for the Army Museum of Singapore and here's the preview of the final figure. Look dam "Garang" sia. Would had wanted to place a pair of goggles on his helmet if I had more time but maybe that will have to wait till next week after the top brass are done reviewing the rest of the displays.
Anyway in retrospective, these three figures were completed within the three month timeline and I've really learned a lot working about working with this Super Sculpey Firm. It's really a fantastic material and it seems that I will swearing by it from now.

As things wind down this week, I will try to embark on my first 1/35 sculpt with Super Sculpey. I managed to get a 1/32 head out yesterday afternoon and will try make a posting of it soon.

Cheers,

Calvin

Deadline's getting close!!!!!!

Hi All,
I'm making a fast update whilst waiting for the Sculpley to "cook" under the spot light. The past month of July has been swamped with completing the 1/6 scale commissions. Sorry folks, though I'm not privy at this moment to post the WIP shots here's a little teaser pic of one of the figures:

The design of the boots might be a good giveaway of what figure it would be if you're a Singaporean man who had done your NS ( National Service) or reservist in the 90's.

And now I think the Sculpley is starting to to get toasted.......AHHHHHH!!!!

Things Are Getting Bigger!

This month was largely occupied with getting some stuff done for a couple of 1/6 figure commissions. Here's a preview of the first prototype of a series heads with South-East Asian features. It was sculpted with Super Sculpley Firm with minor corrections done with Tamiya Putty (Basic Type). Still trying to get the symmetry of the face to sync even was I write this! The hair and eyebrows will be sculpted onto a resin copy made from this master.

Army News Issue 140

Hi All,

some publicity news with a write-up in Army News Issue 140 about a presentation I conducted at St Andrews Secondary back in February.

Here's presenting the finished version of the manga figure after a few bouts of changes and refinements especially to the eyes and face.

..and some thumbnail pictures of a magazine article on the sculpting and painting of the LSSAH, Taganrog figure. Please don't ask me when will it be completed because writing articles to me is liken to that of an AAR (After-Action Review) and I HATE AARs!

Updates for May.

o
The past beginning two weeks of May were occupied with part-time lecturing, ironing out some additional changes to the Manga figure and three 1/16 scale clay sketches for an upcoming commission with the Singapore Army Museum. Featured below are 2 out of the 3 initial proposals rendered in Super Sculpey Firm over a tight deadline of one week. As these are sketches, their sole function was for visualization. Minimal attention were paid to the details so that changes to the figure's pose could be 'painlessly' executed without any heart breaks.

And here are some excerpts from last Monday's dinner at the Seafood "Paradise" Restaurant located at Defu Lane 10. ( Taesung, I hope that you're reading this ;P)

Broccoli with scallops topped with bits of salted egg yolk.

.......and the Crab Vermicelli with Superior Stock is one to die for!!!

One for the SAF

Hi Guys,
after weeks of radio silence, I can finally unveil the second project that I was working along side the Manga figure master. Commissioned by the General Staff of the Singapore Armed Forces, it's a 1/15 scale miniature portrait of the out-going Chief of Army, Major General Desmond Kuek posed on a "fictional" variant of our army's newly acquired Leopard 2 A4 tank. Quite a challenging project considering it's my first miniature portraiture and completed in a record time (for me at least) of three weeks, from sculpting to painting. Plenty of photo references of the subject was provided by the General Staff which made the sculpting proceed much smoother than expected. Due to the tight deadline imposed, I was fortunate to be able to drag an old modeller friend of mine, Juilan Yap from impending retirement from this hobby to assist in the modification and construction of the 1/15 scale Leopard tank. The base kit as most might know is the 1/15 Tamiya Leopard 2A6 remote control tank which Julian has deftly back dated it to what remotely resembles an A4 version. Call it a "Hollywood" version of the A4 if you must, the only justification for such a measure is due to security issues within the military as information pertaining to the design of the actual tank is still kept under key and lock.

The completed model was placed on a gloss lacquered teak wood base and presented to Major General Kuek last night by the head of General Staff during special ceremony cum happy hour. Wah piang eh! Everyone there all had "crabs" on their shoulders. It was like a nite out at Jumbo Seafood man! I saw quite a number of familiar faces too like my ex-CO and RSMs from my stint as an enlistee at 46 SAR. I also never knew you could indent Laksa, Poh Piah, roast beef, scallops and prawns in marinara sauce from SFI! Plus it was the first time I tasted SAF wine too! This 3rd Generation SAF really know how to enjoy man!

And in case some of you might be wondering.....NO...I'm not exempted from reservist and IPPT. No such luck....yet!
