SS Deutschland, France 1940 - Almost Done....

o

Just a quick snapshot of yesterday's progress. I've finally survived the ordeal of attaching the rifle sling and horizontal straps of the Tragestell 39 and what largely remains to be refined apart from the sloppy areas is the SS-VT Plane-tree zeltbahn. Hopfully all will be completed by this weekend and on to another overdued commission.

cheers,

Calvin

Wow the straps are beautiful, what kind of paper do you use for them. I tried regular printer paper, but it turns brittle after stiffening with superglue. Keep up the good work.

Hi Marko,

the paper I used for straps are from the 3M Post-It notes. I opted to use oil-based gloss varnish to stiffen the paper as it allowed more manipulation time. Thinning it slightly with some turpentine allows the paper to better absorb the varnish. Surprisingly it worked the same if not better than my usual practice of using the super-glue. And yes, it did not make the paper brittle too!

cheers,

Calvin
